Fallout 4’s real-time combat is a huge improvement over previous entries. But of course, there must be one area where the iconic Bethesda jank has remained: the stealth system. If an enemy finds you — or even gets a little pissed — they know where you are. It almost feels a little pointless to play carefully.
Now, there is a mod that solves this problem. Stealth and Detection Systems User Urania from Nexus Mods has completely overhauled how the original game’s stealth mechanic works so enemies can’t communicate telepathically or see your location through walls.
“Fallout 4’s detection system is a mess, resulting in unbelievable perception of unnatural enemies”, read the mod’s description. “Whether you’re extremely careful to stay out of sight, make no noise, shoot down enemies at a distance, hide corpses… as long as you get within range of the enemy, they’ll always find you.”
To fix that, the mod aims to be challenging yet realistic. It keeps enemy perception high, but not so ridiculous that they can see through cover.
As you can see in the video, Urania is able to stealthily kill some enemies without making other gangs hostile. This is because they are all out of sight at the time, rewarding players who wait for the enemy to be left alone. Also, if enemies hear you, they still have to find you, which makes it a much more realistic experience.
So far, it seems to be quite popular, with many users saying it is the best stealth mod out there. It’s still receiving updates, so if something goes wrong, it can be fixed. On top of that, you can use the mod to edit the enemy detection system yourself in case the basic setup isn’t challenging enough for you.
Fallout 4 is playable on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
