SNK Corporation surprised longtime fighting game fans with a new announcement for the Fatal Fury franchise during EVO 2022. SNK has given the green light for a new entry in the Fatal Fury/Garou franchise. SNK has shared a new look of Rock Howard in a dark alley with two others, one of whom looks like SNK icon Billy Kane.

Getting the green light doesn’t mean the game will be released or whether it’ll go very far in production. Getting the green light simply means allowing developers to start the project; if anything, the title probably won’t be released until a few years from now. If the new Fatal Fury does release, it will be the first game in the series to be released in more than 20 years. The last game released in the Fatal Fury series was 1999’s Garou: Mark of the Wolves, arguably one of SNK’s best games.

The new Deadly Fury wasn’t the only new announcement SNK made at EVO, the company also revealed the upcoming King of Fighters XV DLC. Team 3 DLC, Team Awakened Orochi, has an official release date of August 8. The Team 4 DLC was announced as Team Samurai and will include characters from the Samurai Showdown franchise. The Samurai team consists of Haohmaru, Nakoruru and Darli Dagger. Team Samurai will be released in the fall of 2022, SNK said. Team Awakened Orochi and Team Samurai make up the Team Pass 2 DLC pack, while Team Pass 1 and Team Pass 2 make up The King of Fighters XV’s first season DLC.

Fan-favorite KOF characters Kim Kaphwan and Shingo Yabuki will be part of KOF XV’s second season DLC, which will arrive sometime in 2023. As part of the game update roadmap, KOF XV will also support cross-play in 2023. The latest entry to the Samurai Showdown for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC will also receive rollback network codes in 2023.
