A Rhodes College alumni group has launched a petition calling for the school to remove Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett from the school’s “Hall of Fame” after she voted to overturn Roe v. Wayne German case.

The petition was created by Rhodes College reproductive rights alumni and is being sent to the school’s principal, Jennifer Collins, and community standards director, Richard Adams.

According to the letter, the signatories’ “strong belief in the Rhodes Code of Honor, to which we all sign, prompted us to make this request.”

The letter argues that Barrett’s testimony at the Senate confirmation hearing and her “judicial decision-making process” violated the Rhodes code of honor.

“In each of the above categories, Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s insistence on the original interpretive approach to constitutional textual analysis (as reflected in her scholarly law writing) appears to be inconsistent with her statements to the U.S. Senate. ,” the letter said.

During Barrett’s Senate confirmation hearing, she said Roe v. Wade was not super-precedent, in response to a question from Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota.

“Defining a case that has settled so smoothly, no political actor or anyone is seriously pushing for their overthrow. I’m answering a lot of questions about Roy, and I think it shows that Roy doesn’t fall into that category,” Barrett said.

The letter criticized Barrett’s response, saying she could be misleading.
