PUBG Battlegrounds developer Krafton has announced that it has “started active development” on a new project based on the Korean fantasy novel “The Bird That Drinks Tears.”
A novel series created and written by Yongdao Lee, Birds of Tears will provide a “new experience” based on Yongdao Lee’s “well-designed world” and “complex characters.”
“This ambitious project aims to bring the original fantasy world of The Bird of Tears to life through its unique and refreshing fantasy game, beautiful, haunting landscapes and gripping, immersive and poignant story. Bring it to life,” Crafton explained on the game’s new website.
To make the game “the best experience possible,” Krafton said it is now “actively recruiting the world’s top development talent to help create the game,” adding “Hollywood talent and concept artist” Iain McCaig , he has previously worked on Star Wars and The Avengers.
“The Tear-Drinking Bird is unlike any other fantasy story I’ve read, it explores human nature in a whole new way,” explains McCaig. “That’s what attracted me the most. It’s an epic comparable to Lord of the Rings or Dune. The fantasy world is fresh and visceral, blending traditional archetypes with completely original imagery of dreams and nightmares.
“I was working on my own projects at the time; being involved meant putting them all aside. I needed to do something very special to do that. It turned out to be true.”
Kafton also recently revealed that it is working with Ubisoft on a new Assassin’s Creed-themed crossover in PUBG Battlegrounds later this month (opens in new tab).
Thought to “bring Assassin’s Creed World to PUBG: Battlegrounds and New State Mobile’s multi-game co-op this August” — meaning the content will appear in both the PC/console version and the mobile iteration — players “will be With access to Assassin’s Creed-themed in-game items, watch Abstergo Industries’ introduction to the world of PUBG: Battlegrounds, and participate in a series of exclusive events to win tickets to Assassin’s Creed-themed crates.”
The PUBG: Battlegrounds event kicks off on August 17 with Assassin’s Creed-themed cosmetics, events, and “world elements” and runs through September 22. The event on New State Mobile runs at a slightly different time – August 18 to September 21 – and offers “over 30 unique Assassin’s Creed-themed outfits.”
