A McDonald’s employee in New York has died days after the son of a disgruntled customer shot him in the face for being served cold fries, according to local news reports.

The 23-year-old man, Matthew Webb, was shot and killed Monday at a McDonald’s in Brooklyn. Webb died on Wednesday, the NYPD said, adding that the case is currently being investigated as a homicide.

Police said Michael Morgan, 20, walked into the McDonald’s and confronted Webb, who was working behind the counter on Monday. Morgan’s mother had complained to Webb that she had received cold fries. She then called Morgan and made a complaint to him, police said.

Morgan then shot Webb outside, according to the NYPD. He then gave the gun to his girlfriend and ran away.

Morgan also confessed to an unrelated 2020 homicide when police brought Morgan into the station for questioning, New York Daily News report. Morgan told police he killed a man in Brooklyn in October 2020.

Morgan pleaded guilty to killing 28-year-old Kevin Hollomon outside an apartment building. Police said Holloman had multiple gunshot wounds, the Daily News reported.

For Monday’s incident, Morgan faces attempted murder charges, as well as unlawful possession of a weapon ABC7 report.

He faces murder charges for the 2020 murders, ABC7 reported.

The two killings occurred just a few blocks apart.

“For a while, we tried to arrest and get this person off the streets,” a police source told the Daily News on condition of anonymity. “This guy should be in jail, should be in jail.”

Webb’s death is just the latest in a string of violent acts against workers at fast food restaurants.
