Joe Biden has again tested negative for the coronavirus, according to a White House doctor.

“The president continues to feel good,” Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in a memo Saturday.

Mr Biden was re-quarantined this week after he was initially diagnosed with the coronavirus in July after testing positive on Saturday for a rebound case of the coronavirus.

The White House said it will continue to isolate the president “with great caution” until he tests negative for a second time.

The president’s last positive test was Friday.

“His cough is almost completely gone. His temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation are completely normal. His lungs are still clean,” Dr. O’Connor said at the time.

The president will be eager to emerge from isolation as key issues such as Nancy Pelosi’s controversial trip to Taiwan and final negotiations over a Democratic budget bill advance rapidly amid the president’s Covid-19 lockdown.

Biden’s Covid boomerang is the latest high-profile “rebound” case of taking Pfizer’s antiviral drug Paxlovid, following a similar experience by White House medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci in June.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration Paxlovid approved for emergency use in December.

Preliminary research shows one and 6% of people between days 10 and 14 after initially testing positive for Covid experienced “rebound”-like symptoms at the end of their initial Covid course. They are not considered new coronavirus infections.

Rebound symptoms tend to be milder and less likely to lead to hospitalization, according to the CDC. The agency said there was no evidence that more Paxlovid was needed to address rebounding cases, noting that “a brief recovery in symptoms may be part of the natural history of Covid”.

Officials argue that the antiviral drug is still working well despite occasional rebound cases.

White House Covid-19 response coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha said during Mr Biden’s debut in July: “Paxlovid has done a very good job of preventing severe illness, rebound or no rebound, that’s why it was offered to him, and it’s something the president accepts. It’s the reason.” got the coronavirus.
