As far as promotional tie-ins go, the gaming industry may have encountered all sorts of oddities over the years. Sometimes it’s weird TV commercials, sometimes it’s Pokémon teaming up with a popular fast food chain, sometimes it’s weird singing Xbox controllers. To celebrate the release of the song “Bad Decisions” starring Benny Blanco, BTS and Snoop Dogg, Xbox took to Twitter to reveal the grand prize in its latest sweepstakes – a custom-designed “Bad Decisions” themed controller that sings to you .
The “first-ever singing controller” — dubbed “for display use only” in the competition rules, which has raised some questions about its actual use in gaming — will be awarded to 30 people who follow the Xbox Twitter account And retweeted posts by lucky participants with the hashtag #BadDecisionsSongXboxSweepstakes. It’s unclear how capable the controller is to “sing,” but the speakers displayed on its back suggest that it will at least play the song itself. In the face of the controller’s otherwise rather simple design, this novelty alone should win over the winner. The contest will run until August 25 and entrants must be at least 18 years old.
The fun and corporate cross-promotion doesn’t stop there, though. Forza Horizon 5 players will receive a special custom vehicle for their garage, also inspired by the song. The new car features at least some of the more interesting aesthetic choices, with some white graphics on the car’s hood accompanied by the artist’s name. The new car and the song itself will be shown on the Xbox Twitch channel later today at 11AM PT. Tune in then to decide if participating in this latest promotion was a bad decision.
