The Los Angeles Angels have been making history all season — not all good — and it continued Thursday afternoon. The Halos hit seven home runs in a loss to the Oakland Athletics, tying the major league home run record. They are the sixth team to lose on seven runs deep.
Shohei Ohtani (who else?) leads with two homers. Jo Adell, Mickey Moniak, Kurt Suzuki, Jared Walsh and Taylor Ward also went deep. All seven home runs were solo home runs.
The Angels are the first team in history to score at least seven points in a game, and each point has come from a single home run. Only twice before has a team scored as many as six in a game while hitting a single home run. The A’s did it in 1991, the Toronto Blue Jays did it in 2010.

This Angels season now has a no-hitter (Reid Detmers on May 10), a loop (Walsh on June 11), a perfect inning (Detmers on July 31), a franchise-record 14-game streak Lost, four managers (Joe Madden, interim Phil Nevin, plus fill-in Ray Montgomery and Bill Hasselman, while others are suspended), now has the most home runs in MLB history . Thursday’s loss dropped the Angels’ record on the season to 44-61. They are 23-50 since the start of the 21-11 season. The Angels haven’t made the playoffs since 2014 and haven’t won a playoff game since 2009.
