The second wave of new DLC tracks for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has just been released, but die-hard data miners have managed to glean some interesting tidbits from its code. The developers appear to be hiding tiny audio clips of several upcoming DLC tracks in the code, presumably thinking that even if someone did find them, they would be too brief to break the features added in the future.
Of course, the internet is known to be full of people willing to take up this kind of challenge.According to Twitter users Fishguy6564 and YouTuber BLanyone cites YouTuber Voice Recorder As their source, the remaining prefetch files (loaded before the music itself begins) reveal the identities of the upcoming 15 courses, including Wave 3’s entire roster. In an impressive showcase of detective work, prefetched data, all of which are equivalent to snippets of audio that are only a second or two long in each case, mostly matching specific tracks from previous Mario Kart games.
So it looks like wave 3 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Speed Pass will include the London Loop, Berlin Trail and Merry Hill for Mario Kart Tour; Taoyuan for Mario Kart DS; Boo Lake (or possibly Boo Lake for Mario Kart Super Circuit) Broken Pier); Rock Rock Mountain and Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 7; and Waluigi Stadium in Mario Kart: Double Dash.
Waves 4, 5 and 6 have also revealed a number of other tracks, although Wave 3 is the only one that seems to have revealed its entire lineup. Still, as with all leaks and rumours, even those seemingly rooted in data and code, the presence of these prefetch files in the Wave 2 code doesn’t confirm that these will be the next batch of DLC courses. Currently Waves 3 to 6 don’t even have a specific release date, just plan to release them all by the end of next year.
