The game director of MultiVersus has confirmed that it will be “overhauling” its hitbox.
Yesterday, August 4, MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh responded to a fan’s question, commenting on the fighting game’s hit box. As you can see from the responses below, developer Warner Bros. is planning an overhaul of the hitbox system in MultiVersus.
We’ll be looking at Finn in sections, we’re doing an overhaul of our hitbox/hurtbox system so don’t want too many moving partsAugust 5, 2022
If you’re not familiar with the term, a hitbox in a fighting game is how the game determines the range of an attack and whether an enemy character will fall into said attack. Each individual attack in a fighting game will have a predetermined hit box indicating the location of the attack, and if the enemy character happens to be within said hit box, they will be hit.
As you might imagine, hitboxes are a tricky thing to do in a fighting game. If a character’s hitbox is too small, the game will feel unfair as it will be harder for other players to use their attacks to catch them. The developers have taken an incredibly fine line in balancing individual attacks and character hitboxes to make everything feel fair to players.
Additionally, Huynh revealed that the human Finn will see some changes, although he didn’t elaborate on what those changes were. There have been some changes to MultiVersus’ massive roster since its launch last July, including much-needed nerfs like Taz’s Tornado attack, so further work on other characters isn’t a surprise.
