Riot Games has officially revealed the long-awaited rework for League of Legends champion Soulwalker Udyr. Udyr’s rework is the latest in a series of visual game updates (known as VGU) designed to hit the wildly popular multiplayer online battle arena.
While the new trailer doesn’t lay out all of Udyr’s changes, it does provide an impressive first impression and a fairly comprehensive overview. According to Riot Games, Udyr now has the ability to communicate with “all the souls of the Freljord,” the harsh and cold land of Udyr and many heroes – such as Ashe, Lissandra, and Sejon Ni – call it home. Udyr can also channel the ethereal energies of these souls and utilize them in his own “wild fighting style”.
According to the trailer, it appears that Udyr will still have the fighting stance of a bear and a phoenix. However, his tortoise and tiger stance appears to have changed to accommodate two of the Freljord’s new creatures: the ram and the boar. More notably, the proper names for all of these stances now refer to the Freljord gods Anivia, Ornn, Iron Boar, and Volibear, adding more continuity to the characters.
“With the ability to communicate with any and all spirits of the Freljord, Udyr channels and transforms their ethereal energies into his own wild physical fighting style,” Riot Games wrote in a rework press release. “Through his growing mastery of this awesomely versatile force, Udyr seeks to maintain balance in the mystical landscape of the Freljord, where conflict and struggle are its lifeblood…and sacrifices must be made to keep the peace .”
In addition to his new playstyle, the trailer also showcases Udyr’s enhanced new look. Assuming his axe and glowing eyes don’t scare enemy players, his bulky frame should do the trick.
As of now, Riot Games has not announced when the update will officially go live. However, fans should be able to expect the reworked Udyr to hit the servers sometime in the next few months.
