Development on GTA 6 has been “going well” for a while now, and we’re starting to hear reports of the next big Rockstar game. The early buzz got fans excited, but also got them thinking about the Game 6 setting. As with any video game fanbase, there are many opinions.
ResetEra Forum User T002 Tyrant created a poll Ask Grand Theft Auto fans when they’d like to see a new collection of games. Options include past, present, future, and others. Winning today by a sizable margin with nearly half of the votes as of this writing. Some replies said they chose today because of the sheer number of strange events happening in the world today, many of which are ripe for sarcasm with GTA.
The polls for this time period did not come out of the blue, though. GTA 6 will reportedly feature a female protagonist as part of a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired duo, and the game is said to take place in fictional Miami. GTA: Sin City has the same geography, even though it takes place during the cocaine heyday of the ’80s. If we’re really going back to Sin City, then the question is whether we should do it today or go back to the same ’80s aesthetic. ResetEra responder Vex considers taking the game further afield, perhaps setting it in the 70s. Forum member Jawmuncher would like to see it take a turn in the other direction, with a ’90s look.
Of course, there’s also the question of when Grand Theft Auto 6 will actually arrive. Some analysts predict a release date as early as 2023. For reference, fiscal year 2024 runs from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. This is seen by many as a potential release window.
