The Chinese ambassador to France said on Monday that the people of Taiwan will need to undergo “re-education” after the democratic island nation is “unified” with the mainland.
Lu Shaye, Beijing’s ambassador to France and Monaco, said on Wednesday that despite state media threats of military action, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is still considering military action after visiting Taiwan without incident” Unify” Taiwan with Communist China.
Support for “unification” — a heavy term in itself because the Chinese government has never ruled Taiwan, a democracy with its own military, currency, culture and written language — has taken a hit all-time lowonly 1.3% of Taiwanese support a merger with the mainland “as soon as possible”, and only 5.3% support the idea of eventually falling under Beijing’s rule.
In an interview with French broadcaster BFMTV, Ambassador Lu blamed the “propaganda” of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party President Tsai Ing-wen for the low level of support for Taiwan’s communist regime.
“Ten or twenty years ago, most people in Taiwan supported reunification. Why are they against it now? It’s because the DPP is hyping up anti-China propaganda.” Former Deputy Mayor of Wuhan City Say in a comment translated by national review.
“After reunification, we will have re-education,” he warned.

The ambassador did not elaborate on how the communists would “re-educate” Taiwanese people with Western ideology and basic freedoms. However, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has a long and sordid history of using extreme methods to bend people to their will.
For decades, Mao’s policy of láodòng jiàoyǎng, or “re-education through labor,” has been used in mainland China against those accused of petty crimes such as theft or prostitution, crimes against dissidents and practitioners of the Falun Gong spiritual movement.
More recently, the CCP has held millions of Uighur Muslims and other ethnic minorities in internment camps that Beijing has tried to call “vocational training centers.” Numerous accounts of Xinjiang concentration camp survivors recount torture, rape and organ harvesting, and the sterilization of women who were detained in the camps.
Mr. Lu Say The military invasion of Taiwan is still under discussion, but said it “would not target the people of Taiwan”, claiming it would only “deter or warn separatist and anti-China forces aimed at Taiwan independence” internationally.
The Chinese ambassador turned his attention to a visit to Taiwan by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, calling the visit an “unnecessary provocation” that “caused a lot of danger, a lot of crises.”
“We are responding to the provocation,” he said. “If we don’t answer, they will continue, little by little, they will achieve the so-called independence of Taiwan. This is the will of the Taiwan authorities!”
