Peter Jackson is known not to be involved in Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Thrones series, which is a deliberate attempt to separate itself from Jackson’s famous trilogy. But there’s clearly one thing that the studio is at least willing to embrace the possibility, or even contact Jackson directly. Amazon, however, apparently fell silent when the director asked for the script.

“They asked me if I wanted to be involved in— [writer and producer Fran Walsh] I — I said, ‘That’s a question that’s impossible to answer without reading the script,'” Jackson told The Hollywood Reporter. “So they said, ‘Once we get the first scripts, we’ll send them to you. ‘ The script never came out. That’s the last thing I heard and that’s fine. No complaints at all. “

Jackson started the epic fantasy genre 20 years ago with his “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, paving the way for “Game of Thrones” and many other shows. He’s a big reason why Amazon is betting big on new episodes, spending hundreds of millions of dollars on rights and production.

Ring of Power – Who’s Who in The Lord of the Rings Prequels

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon responded: “In securing the rights to our shows, we have an obligation to keep the series distinct and separate from the movies. We have the utmost respect for Peter Jackson and the Lord of the Rings films, And glad he’s looking forward to watching The Rings of Power.”

However, according to THR, the Ring of Thrones showrunner is said to be a fan of Jackson and would be interested in making a suggestion. Former genre head Sharon Tal Yguado is also reportedly interested in getting Jackson involved. However, the hurdles will be huge, with Tolkien Estate stakeholders reportedly objecting to his role in the show due to Christopher Tolkien’s criticism of the original film.

Amazon initially paid $250 million for the rights to ‘Lord of the Rings’, giving the streaming giant access to ‘The Lord of the Rings’, ‘The Two Towers’, ‘The Return of the King’ and ‘The Hobbit’ — but not ‘The Genie’ The Silmarillion, the Unfinished story, or the history of Middle-earth.

The Rings of Power will focus on the Second Age of Lord of the Rings, thousands of years before the original Lord of the Rings. It will include familiar faces like Elrond, but other names like Gandalf are yet to be confirmed.

As for Jackson, he said he had no ill will. “I’ll watch it. I’m not the malicious type. Filmmaking is hard enough. If someone makes a good movie or TV show, that’s something to celebrate. One of the things I look forward to is actually Think of it as a completely neutral audience.”

The Lord of the Rings: Ring of Power will be released on September 2nd. Check out all our coverage, including why the show won at San Diego Comic-Con, plus five exclusive clips from the show.
