It’s that time of the week again – it’s time for some new weekend streaming recommendations. If you’re in the mood to indulge in a new TV series, try Sandman on Netflix, which brings Neil Gaiman’s beloved comics to the small screen with an all-star cast.
When it comes to movies, we’ve been spoiled this week. On Prime Video, Ron Howard’s latest “Thirteen Lives” tells the story of a young soccer team and coach trapped in a flooded cave in Thailand, while “Predator” prequel “Prey” is set in the United States. Aired on Hulu and Disney Plus in the UK. Elsewhere on Disney Plus, Toy Story spin-off Lightyear will air this weekend, along with a new installment from Marvel Studios: The Rally About Making Ms. Marvel. Additionally, US viewers can watch the James Bond film Skyfall on Netflix and Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest licorice pizza on Prime Video.

When Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), the master of dreams, is imprisoned by a warlock obsessed with immortality (Charles Dance), both the waking world and the dreaming world begin to fall apart. After his release, Morpheus sets out how to make up for the cosmic and human mistakes he has made during his existence. Gwendoline Christie, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Patton Oswalt, Mason Alexander Park and Jenna Coleman also star.
Thirteen Lives – Prime Video

Thirteen Lives tells the tragic true story of 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped in a flooded cave. Back in 2018, a huge dive effort was launched to try and save them. It’s not the first time a harrowing true story has been told (most notably National Geographic’s documentary “The Rescue” received rave reviews for its retelling), but Howard brought a Hollywood budget to his adaptation. Colin Farrell, Viggo Mortensen, Joel Edgerton and Sukollawat Kanarot all star in an extraordinary story of survival.

Toy Story spinoff Lightyears is the origin story of the fictional spaceman that the action figure we know and love is based on, this time voiced by Chris Evans. Buzz finds himself stranded on a planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth, and things are further complicated by the arrival of Emperor Zug (James Brolin). The voice cast also includes the voices of Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi and astronaut Tim Peake.

A prequel to the Predator series, Prey is set in 18th century Comanche country and follows Naru (Amber Midthunder), a young but highly skilled Comanche warrior who must protect her tribe from predators. We interviewed Midthunder About shooting one of the most difficult scenes in a movie. The film was directed by 10 Cloverfield Lane helmer Dan Trachtenberg and premiered on Hulu in the US and Disney Plus in the UK.
Marvel Studios: Assembled – The Making of Ms. Marvel – Disney Plus

Ms. Marvel ended Disney Plus last month, but now you can go behind the scenes of the MCU show with the latest installment of Marvel Studios: Assembled. If it’s similar to previous episodes, including Moon Knight and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we can expect an hour of exclusive live footage that gives us an idea of how Kamala Khan’s story is brought to life.

James Bond is parachuting into US Netflix. Skyfall is now available on streaming services. The 2012 film is Daniel Craig’s third film as 007 and sees the super spy investigating the M16 attack. He soon discovers that a mysterious ex-agent named Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem) is behind it, which is more extensive and sinister than he first imagined. The film received rave reviews when it came out – and also featured a very catchy theme song from Adele. What more could you want?

Cooper Hoffman (son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman) played 15-year-old Gary Valentine in Paul Thomas Anderson’s adult film in the ’70s, a role roughly based on the film Based on filmmaker Gary Goetzman, he started his career as a child actor and produced everything from Silence of the Lambs to Mamma Mia! ” and a series of movies. Alana Haim plays Alana, a directionless woman in her 20s who strikes up a friendship with Gary – and many wild adventures ensue.
