Republican Senator Ted Cruz said he would “want to see” former President Donald Trump’s decision when deciding whether he would run for the White House again.

Cruz, a conservative agitator from Texas and Trump’s runner-up in the 2016 Republican presidential nomination race, told Fox News on Friday that he and other potential 2024 presidential candidates will “wait and see Donald Trump.” decisions, and then take decisions from there.”

Since leaving the White House a year-and-a-half ago, Trump has been contemplating another presidential bid, and recently appeared to send his strongest signal yet about his intentions. The former president appeared to say in a recent New York Magazine interview that his 2024 decision is about when — not if.

“I would say my big decision will be whether I go before or after,” Trump said in an interview published last month, seemingly referring to the November midterm elections.

Cruz has not ruled out running for the White House again, having stopped several times over the past year in early voting states on the Republican presidential nomination calendar — more likely in the coming months — and told Fox News and Other news organizations say “When I was running at ’16, it was the funniest thing in my life.”

“My focus is 2022. I’ve spent almost every waking moment on the campaign trail, focused on taking back the House and Senate,” Cruz said.

He predicted “I think we’re going to win two. I think we’re going to see a Republican majority in the House. I think we’re going to see a Republican majority in the Senate. I hope and believe we’re going to be successful not just by seeing a majority. , but also to see strong neoconservative leaders willing to stand up and fight and deliver on their promises.”

Republicans are saddled with political winds as they aim to win back majorities in both chambers of Congress in midterm elections. But many in the Republican Party worry that Trump’s 2024 announcement, which could be announced by November, could negatively impact the GOP’s chances of regaining control of the House and Senate.

Asked if he thought Trump’s 2024 announcement would hurt the GOP, Cruz replied that the former president “will decide what he wants to do, and frankly, he’s going to decide his own timeline. He won’t listen”
