CNN panelists on Thursday broke down on the success of former President Donald Trump’s backed candidate in Tuesday’s Republican primary.
“I’m called RINO every day, and I’m a crazy Tea Party guy,” said former Republican Rep. Joe Walsh of Illinois. “Every word Dick Cheney said in the ad was right. But it’s the deal. Former Vice President Dick Cheney has released an ad attacking former President Trump for his daughter’s re-election campaign. Rep. Cheney, an outspoken Trump critic, was one of two Republicans appointed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on the committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.
“Just 15 years ago, Cheney was considered a conservative in the Republican Party,” said CNN political analyst Ron Brownstein. “Democrats call him Voldemort, right. Now, because he attributes his vision of conservatism, a strong government, and a strong national defense to this resentment of being displaced in a country that’s constantly changing and diverse, he’s kind of, You know, at this – at this party.”
Brownstein and Rep. Cheney did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation. Walsh could not be reached for comment.
