today’s announcement Many of the details already stated in last week’s leak have been verified. Square Enix has remastered Tactics Ogre using what appears to be a variation of its popular HD-2D art style, with new sprites, enhanced backgrounds, and beautiful portraits for player characters and NPCs. Tactical Ogre: Rebirth is based on the 2010 PSP remake, which means it already has many of the enhancements the PlayStation Portable version received. This includes additional multiplayer features, new characters, new scenarios, gear crafting, and World Tarot and Chariot Tarot, allowing you to relive past parts of the game’s story and battle to change its ending.

Other improvements to Tactics Ogre: Reborn over the PSP version include an updated UI and simplified controls, a new unit-by-unit upgrade system that replaces the previous squad level management system, and an overhauled unit AI that better responds to player tactics and battlefield conditions. There’s also a new auto-save feature and generally faster combat animations, thanks to today’s enhanced hardware.

If you haven’t played the 1995 original or the 2010 remake, Tactical Ogre: Rebirth takes place in the island nation of Valera. After the death of a beloved king, the country is plunged into a bloody civil war as national factions fight for the throne. You play as Denam Pavel, leading a rebel group seeking to end the civil war and restore peace to the land.

Tactical Ogre: Rebirth is coming to PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on November 11.
