So far, Pokémon fans have celebrated a lot with Scarlet and Violet. New players like Fidough and Cetitan are capturing the hearts of many coaches, but not everything shown for the next game has been greeted with such enthusiasm. Legend: Arceus has improved a lot to create a smoother and more addictive game loop, but it seems that some of the changes to Scarlet and Violet are being undone.

ResetEra Forum Member Personablue started a thread solve these problems. According to the latest trailer, it looks like four quality-of-life changes have been reinstated. Pokémon will once again be able to learn new moves during combat and see their XP calculated on the screen afterward; in Legends: Arceus, they learned new moves outside of combat and had XP calculated in the background . Arceus also allows you to choose a Pokémon and throw your Pokémon Ball before the battle begins, while Scarlet and Violet require you to bump a Pokémon on the field to start the battle. In the end, Arceus showed full contact in his attack moves, but Scarlet and Violet went back to the previous Sword and Shield-style combat, which relied heavily on menus.

These QOL changes generally make Arceus a faster pace, which Scarlet and Violet seem to have done away with. When showing this to other ResetEra members and asking them if they were disappointed, Personablue found that they were not alone. Many replies mourned the loss of the changes made by Arceus.

Scarlet and Violet are also making a lot of their own changes, though. In addition to the new Paldean region variants of existing Pokémons, Gen 9 also introduces the Terastallize mechanic. This actually changes the type of mid-battle for Pokémon, which should really change the competitive scene. In the new Tera Raids, enhanced Tera Pokémon can also be challenged with friends.

We still have a few months before we can try all the new stuff. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s release date is Friday, November 18, when it’ll be released exclusively on Nintendo Switch. You can get Tera Flying-type Pikachu by picking up the game in the launch window.
