As it turns out, the new Paldean Wooper from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is even more special than we initially thought.
following yesterday’s pokemon gift Live, the internet has been digesting all the reveal we’ve got pokemon scarlet and violet. Surprisingly, there’s been a lot of discussion around the new region-specific Wooper, which seems to be more interesting than we all realized at first.
The first detail about Paldean Wooper after that is that this will be the first Poison/Earth Pokemon since Gen 1. Other members of this category include Nidoqueen and Nidoking – both of which were introduced in the mid-90s in the first generation of Pokemon.
Plus, as cute as it looks – if not a little hollow – the Paldean Wooper may prove to be more powerful than any of us expected.according to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Official Site (opens in new tab) , Paldean Wooper’s abilities are “Poison Spot” and “Water Absorption”. If you know your Pokemon type well, you know that poison/land types are weak against water, but with “water absorption” our little ones can heal themselves instead of taking double damage. This basically removes a quarter of this Pokémon’s weakness.
Another thing that has been pointed out since we met Paldean Wooper is that it might actually be based on a real-life amphibian. As u/unlimi_Ted in Pokemon subreddit (opens in new tab), Wooper’s redesign may have been inspired by the real-life creature, the Iberian-ribbed salamander (aka the sharp-ribbed salamander). There are indications that this newt is related to our Paldean Wooper, not just its brown color.
According to the official website, Padding Uppers “protects itself by shooting powerful poisonous fluids from its gills”. They also “cover their bodies with a toxic film” to keep them from drying out on land. Both sound a lot like their real-life counterparts.
In case you didn’t know, real-life salamanders are known for attacking predators by pushing their ribs through their skin and secreting toxic substances. It may not be a coincidence that Paldean Wooper also has a rib-like pattern on his abdomen and appendages to his head that look like small bones. Not to mention, it’s actually a poison-type Pokemon.
In case you missed it, here’s what else we learned about the upcoming Gen 9 game during yesterday’s demo.First, we find The official name of the Pokemon Crimson and Violet regions It’s Padia. We also now know more about Game Freak’s New ways to play Legendary Pokemonand in fact Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will abandon linear narrative,
