Lady Gaga has confirmed previous reports that she will be appearing in Joker: Folie A Deux, posting a short but sweet video on her official Twitter account of her silhouette with Joaquin Another Joker silhouette dancing in Phoenix.
A previous report hinted that Joker: Folie A Deux would be a musical, and suggested Lady Gaga might star as Harley Quinn. While Gaga’s video doesn’t really confirm anything other than her involvement in the film, the song Cheek to Cheek that accompanies the video definitely shows that previous reports were accurate. For those unaware, the song Cheek to Cheek is best known for its inclusion in the musical Swing Time, and was actually covered by Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett back in 2014.
There is also a small detail in the video that also exposes Lady Gaga’s role as Harley Quinn. While not explicitly stated, the little hearts on Gaga’s contoured cheeks don’t really serve as a reference for anyone else. It’s unclear if Gaga will write any music for the film as she did in A Star Is Born, but you have to admit, it would be foolish for Warner Bros.
If you’re wondering what to expect from Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn, Joker: Folie A Deux likely won’t be associated with any other DC movie. Just because Gaga is Harry in this movie doesn’t mean Robbie has been ousted. For example, Joaquin Phoenix played the Joker in the movie, but in Batman’s cut scenes, the Joker was played by Barry Keohan.
As for when we’ll see Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, the film’s release date was announced yesterday, and it looks like we’ll have a long wait. Joker: Folie A Deux hits theaters on October 4, 2024, and production is rumored to begin this December.
