After trying out the Rift mode resurrected from the original Destiny this season, Destiny 2’s Iron Banner will switch to Clash, but with one far-reaching change. The plan now is to add a new system to the multiplayer mode called Eruption, which increases the tension and power of each kill in an unbroken streak.

in the latest Bungie Posts of the Week, lead designer Alan Blaine explained that Eruption will be coming in season 18 to highlight killstreaks in Destiny 2 PvP. The new mode is essentially conflict, but with a new mechanic that charges Guardians as they take out a series of opponents without dying.

Usually, kills in Eruption – like Clash – are worth one point. You will also get a “normal” amount of energy to knock down opponents. However, if a Guardian takes out a second opponent without dying, they become “surging”. While surging, the Guardian will glow, and kills will start generating 10% Super Power, and 20% grenade, melee, and class power power. When a Guardian emerges, they get three points for each kill.

Once Guardians have five kills in a row, they are “ready”. These players will start to shine brighter and their entire team will start “hunting”. This state means that everyone in the team gets 5% super power and 10% grenade, melee and class power, while the Guardians who are ready get 12% super power and 5% grenade, melee and class power .

However, there is a trade-off. There’s also a 15-second timer on Primed Guardians, and if it hits zero, they’ll explode, instantly dying and resetting their winning streak. You can reset the timer to 15 by taking another kill, but when you’re ready, you’ll also be marked – everyone on the other team can see where you are and they’ll all shoot you because you will If the value of three is taken out, extra points will be awarded.

Blaine said Bungie has learned some lessons from this season’s Iron Banner Rift launch, so Eruption will initially be available in Crucible Labs’ low-pressure environment before launching the Iron Banner main event stage.

Meanwhile, the Rift will switch to regular Crucible spinners and will be available in Weeks 1, 8 and 14, as well as private matches. Starting in Season 18, the Rift will also introduce “more standard” overtime rules.
